Since the size of it is big, all of the family members can get an equal amount of meat and all of them can taste the deliciousness of it.

But, before you get to the eating part, you need to carve the turkey first. Learning how to carve a turkey is important because learning it will make you have a skill that will never go to waste, especially during Thanksgiving.

In this article, Tripboba will share some techniques on how to carve a turkey, along with some steps so that you can follow and practice them yourself.

How to Carve a Turkey Breast

Turkey breast is probably one of the most delicious parts of a roasted to turkey. To be able to eat the breast, you should properly carve it first from the whole roasted turkey. Here are the steps that you can follow on how to carve a turkey breast.

Step 1. Using a sharp knife, cut down the center of the breast along the breastbone until you hit the turkey’s rib cage.

Step 2. Cut one side of the breast from the bone and remove the meat from the bone.

Step 3. Cut the other side of the breast from the bone and remove the meat from the bone.

Step 4. Start slicing the removed meat. You can slice it thin or thick, depends on how you like it.

Step 5. Put the sliced meat on a plate and serve it to your family members.

How to Carve a Turkey Alton Brown Way

Now, after you know how to carve a turkey breast, it’s time for you to learn a more difficult task, which is carving a whole turkey. To be able to carve a turkey, you can follow Alton Brown’s way to carve it.

And below are the steps that you can follow on how to carve a turkey as demonstrated by Alton Brown.

Step 1. Put your whole roasted turkey on a cutting board that is lined with a clean kitchen towel on top. The kitchen towel will prevent your turkey from sliding off the cutting board.

Step 2. Wear a pair of gloves and grab a carving knife and a thong.

Step 3. Remove the breast off one side of the turkey by simply cutting a straight line the cross where the wishbone would be. Then, cut the skin down the side of the thigh and remove the meat off of the whole turkey.

Step 4. Repeat step 3 on the other side. 

Step 5. Cut the breast meat into thin slices.

Step 6. Carefully removed the drum stick by holding it back so that the joint opens up, and cut through it.

Step 7. Repeat Step 6 on the other drum stick of the turkey.

Step 8. Carve the meat on the drum stick by holding it upright and slice down from one end towards the other hand of the bone.

Step 9. Now, flip the whole turkey over so that the back is facing upwards. Then, bend one of the turkey wings back so that the joint opens up, and cut through it.

Step 10. Repeat step 9 on the other turkey wing.

Step 11. Cut the thigh down the turkey just like you’re cutting the breast. Do the same with the other thigh.

Step 12. Slice out the middle bone of the thigh using the tip of your carving knife, and pull it off from the meat.

Step 13. Slice the thigh meat thinly just like you’re slicing the breast meat. 

Step 14. Roll the turkey over and remove the left-over scraps from the bones.

How to Carve a Turkey with an Electric Knife

Another way that you can do on how to carve a turkey is by using an electric knife. If you happen to have an electric knife and you don’t know how to use it yet, then you can follow the steps below.

Step 1. Put your whole roasted turkey on a cutting board that is lined with a clean kitchen towel on top. The kitchen towel will prevent your turkey from sliding off the cutting board.

Step 2. Wear a pair of gloves and grab the electric knife.

Step 3. Turn on the knife and then cut through down to the ribcage and side of the breast.

Step 4. Remove the breast from the turkey, and then do the same to the opposite side.

Step 5. Roll the turkey over, grab one of the wings, and gently cut down to the joint. Do the same step to the opposite side.

Step 6. Spin the turkey around so that the tail of the turkey is facing you.

Step 7. Cut down the thigh from the middle and pull it for a little bit. Do the same step to the opposite side.
