If you’ve bought a small avocado tree, you can make it grow and bear more fruits. To do that, you can follow the steps on how to grow avocado from the tree below.

Step 1. Prepare a large planting pot, at least 24 inches in diameter and 18 inches tall. 

Step 2. Fill the bottom of the pot with soil mix, then place the avocado tree in the middle of the pot.

Step 3. Fill the rest of the pot with soil mix and make sure that it covered the avocado tree well.

Step 4. Water the avocado tree with water. Fertilize the avocado tree once every two weeks so that it can grow well.

If you can’t get an avocado tree around you, you can also grow your own avocado from the seed. And here’s how to grow avocado from the seed.

Step 1. Carefully remove the seed from the avocado without cutting it. 

Step 2. Wash the seed well so that it doesn’t mold easily in the water.

Step 3. Locate the bottom and top of the seed. The bottom will be submerged in the water and grow roots, and the top will sprout.

Step 4. Pierce three toothpicks around the seed at an angle. The toothpicks will suspend the seed so that it doesn’t drown in the water. Make sure that you don’t pierce the fault lines.

Step 5. Fill a cup or jar with water almost to the brim and place the seed of the avocado in the jar. Make sure that the bottom of the seed is submerged in the water.

Step 6. Place the jar in a warm and sunny spot, but keep it away from direct sunlight.

Step 7. Change the water in the jar on a regular basis. The seed will start rooting and sprouting in two to four weeks.

Step 8. If the root reaches 6 inches long, transfer the seed to a 25mm diameter pot.

How to Grow Avocado Indoors

You might want to grow your own avocado tree but you have limited space in your house or apartment. Well, don’t worry, because you can also grow an avocado tree indoors. Learn how to grow avocado indoors by following the steps below.

Step 1. Remove the avocado seed from the fruit without cutting the seed.

Step 2. Wash the seed well to prevent molding.

Step 3. Find out the bottom and the top of the seed. The top is the pointy side where it will sprout, and the bottom is the slightly flatter side that will grow roots.

Step 4. Sticks three toothpicks into the avocado seed at an angle. The toothpicks will prevent the seed from completely submerged in the water.

Step 5. Prepare a jar or a cup and fill it with water almost to the brim and place the avocado seed in the water. Make sure that it’s only the bottom part that is submerged.

Step 6. Place the jar on a windowsill or in a sunny and warm area without direct sunlight.

Step 7. Change the water regularly to prevent fungus, mold, and bacteria from growing.

Step 8. After about two to six weeks, you will start seeing the roots and stem growth. Once the stem reaches 6 inches long, cut it down to 3 inches and wait for the stem to grow again.

Step 9. After the stem grows again, plant the seed in a 10 inches pot with drainage at the bottom.  Water and fertilize the avocado plant regularly.
