You might have asked whether or not you can grow ginger in water. The answer is absolutely yes! And Tripboba is here to help you with that! Take a look at the step-by-step instruction on how to grow ginger in water below:

Step 1. To start it all, have live ginger root – get it from garden centers, nurseries, or seed companies. Or if you have a friend who has a ginger plant, a root cut from that plant will work too.

You just have to choose roots that are strong, plump, and have tight skin with a few eyes on them – this means like bumps you see on a potato. The roots can be cut and split at the bud and planted so that each will grow into a single plant.

Step 2. In preparation for planting, soak those ginger roots in warm water overnight.

Step 3. Fill a wide, shallow planter with well-draining, fertile potting soil.

Step 4. Put the ginger root with the eye buds pointing up and cover it with 1-2 inches more soil. Flush a little.

Step 5. Put the pot in a place that is kept warm and does not get a lot of bright light.

Step 6. Keep the soil moist, remember to be careful and not to overwater it.

Step 7. As gingers are slow in growing, you have to be patient. After 2-3 weeks, you will see some shoots appear.

Step 8. And then a few months after growth begins, you can harvest small pieces of ginger. Move the soil around the edge of the pot to find some ginger under the surface. Cut the desired number off stems toward the edge of the pot and then replace the soil so that it can continue growing.

Besides growing ginger in a pot, you can also grow ginger in water. To do this, you will only need a few tools. Here’s how to grow ginger in water.

Step 1. Prepare one empty water bottle and cut it into two parts. The top parts must be shorter than the bottom parts.

Step 2. Then, fill the bottom part of the water with water until almost to the rim.

Step 3. Now, get your ginger root and some toothpick. Stick the toothpick to the ginger root in several spots so that the bottom half of the ginger can be submerged in the water.

Step 4. Place the ginger root in the water with only the bottom part that is submerged in the water.

Step 5. Place the ginger root in a bright spot with indirect sunlight.

Step 6. After 30 days, there will be roots and shoots that are growing.

Step 7. Make sure to change the water on a regular basis. You can also change the water when it starts to get brown.

Now you know how to grow ginger at home. Knowing how to grow ginger on your own will save you some money from buying ginger at the grocery store. And as a bonus, you will also have an endless supply of ginger. Happy planting!
