Step 1. Prepare the right needle and thread that matches the material of your pants as well as the color of your fabric. Don't forget to prepare a scissor to cut the needle.

Step 2. Make sure that you have enough thread. Try to line up the needle to the size of the hole in your pants and measure how long the thread that you will need.

Step 3. Thread the needle and then knot the end of the thread.

Step 4. If the hole in your pant is caused by a split seam, then you just need to sew them back by sewing along the seam line. Don’t forget to turn your pants inside out so that your thread will be invisible.

Step 5. If you find a hole that is not on the seam, then you might need a patch to close it, especially if the hole is big. Measure the hole and look for another fabric that matches the fabric of your pants and sew them.

Step 6. For a simpler way, you can also use an iron-on patch to patch the hole by laying the patch on top of the hole and iron it with enough hit to stick the patch to the fabric.

Step 5. When the needle is halfway back to the underneath of the buttonhole, you should put the thread behind the needle and run it underneath the front part of the needle to create a knot.

Step 6. Repeat the step until all the area around the buttonhole is sewn.
