Tucked away in the stunning rolling hills of the Western Highlands, the 439-acre Black Rock State Park provides a variety of outdoor activities. Steep and wooded ledges covered with hemlock, pine, and oak forms the beautiful backdrop of Blackstone Pond.
The name Black Rock comes from the local graphite deposits that were permitted by the early settlers of the Naugatuck Valley to mine by the Indians around 1657. You are able to enjoy views of the Western Highlands while you are hiking the blue-blazing Mattatuck Trail that connects the park with forest sections of the Mattatuck State Forest.
