Black Rock is a designated Trout Park, therefore, one of the park's main activities is river and pond fishing. Other activities include picnics, hiking, field sports, and swimming.

The very good hiking trail is available on the Mattatuck Trail, from the Gray Stone section in Waterbury to the Wigwam Reservoir in Morris. This trail provides a beautiful view of the Naugatuck Valley, highlighting the Black Rock.

There are many trails, where one can see the Black Stone Lake, the dense forest, the Black Stone Pond, and the meadow. The hikes are able to take anywhere from 30 minutes to a full day.
