The state park covers 3,100 acres of land, offering many fun outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, and water activities on the Watchaug Pond. 

Burlingame State Park is also perfect if you’re looking for a place to connect to nature. In this park, you can observe mammals such as deer, rabbits, muskrat, mink, foxes, otters, and weasels. Over 80 species of birds nestled in the park and many more pass through the area during migration season. There are also reptiles and amphibians including frogs, salamanders, eastern box turtles, and the non-venomous northern water snake.

The campground in Burlingame State Park is very spacious. It has 700 rustic campsites, as well as 20 cabins. The campground also features restrooms with shower facilities, a playground, arcade, freshwater beach, boat ramp, canoe rentals, and hiking trails. 

If you need camping necessities, you can buy it from the Campstore. They have a wide variety of items you might need to stay overnight, as well as a large selection of souvenirs.

There are no utilities such as electricity in this campground, and one campsite can accommodate up to six guests. Campfires and pets are allowed in the campground as well.

The campground is very busy in the summer, so we strongly recommend you to book the site online instead of booking it on the spot. The price for the campsites is USD 14 for Rhode Island residents and USD for out of state residents.

Burlingame State Park Trails

In Burlingame State Park, you can explore the area by hiking the trails. All the trails here are considered moderate level. Three of the most famous trails in the park include: Burlingame State Park Campground Trail, Watchaug Pond, and Vin Gormley Trail from North Trailhead. 

The Burlingame State Park Campground Trail is 9.3 miles long, with an estimated time to finish around 4 hours. You can enjoy the sight of a beautiful lake, as well as exploring tons of roots and large rocks. The trail is a bit rough so you need to pay more attention. You can also bring along your dog to hike with you. 

Longer from The Burlingame State Park Campground Trail is Watchaug Pond Trail. This trail is 11 miles long, with an estimated time to finish about 4 hours and 51 minutes. When you hike this trail, you may get confused as there is a part where you have to go out to the road. Keep in mind to follow the yellow blazes!

Last but not least is Vin Gormley Trail from North Trailhead. This trail is 7.8 miles long and the ground is mostly flat. You can bring along your dog as long as they’re on a leash. There are also several bog bridges along this route.

There are 20 rustic cabins in Burlingame State Park with no utilities you can book for staying overnight in the state park! Inside the cabin, there are two bunk beds with no mattresses – you can purchase them for USD 20 at the Campstore. All cabins have a flat rate price which is USD 35 per night.

Near the campground and cabins, you can easily access the fun attractions of the state park. For example, you can do canoeing at the lake. There is a canoe rental as well near the lake.

You can also fish, or simply hanging out at the picnic tables and the playground. Whether you’re coming with your friends or family, Burlingame State Park will definitely be a fun place to spend your time.
