Tripboba.com - Located in West Orange, New Jersey as a part of the South Mountain Recreation Complex, Turtle Back Zoo has been very popular amongst American as a family retreat destination. It’s situated on 20 acres in the South Mountain Reservation part of the Essex County Park System which is the oldest county park system in the United States. 

The zoo itself is very clean and well maintained – there are a lot of good photo opportunities too for the kids. Not only animals, they also have other fun attractions for your family such as a train ride that goes through the forest, carousel, and pony rides.

In holidays such as Christmas, Turtle Back Zoo also host a very exciting event, where they put up Christmas lights in the zoo area and the admission to enter the zoo is free. Since the zoo is very large, you will definitely have a lot to explore!

Christmas can’t be more exciting in Turtle Back Zoo! The zoo closes for the day, but it opens its area for people to enjoy the holiday with their loved ones, under the decorations of colorful lights at night. This event also features weekend Santa Visits, so you can bring your kids to interact with him and give some warm memories about Christmas.

Turtle Back Zoo is open every day from 10 AM to 3 PM for the last admission. Then, the park remains open for 1 hour after last admission. The zoo will be closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day.

One of the most exciting attractions in Turtle Back Zoo is its Treetop Adventure Course, where you will go through an aerial obstacle course featuring zip line. This attraction is built next to the zoo. There are two types of courses: adult courses and junior courses. For adult courses (approximately 35ft in height) features 30 unique challenge elements with an average run time of 1 to 1.5 hours. 

The junior courses (approximately 10ft in height) have 15 unique change elements with an average run time of 30 to 45 minutes. Parents/guardians can join their children on the Junior Course by paying the same fee. 

The zip line itself has been redesigned and measures over a football field in length, standing approximately 40 feet above the ground. If you just want to experience the Treetop Adventure without visiting the zoo, keep in mind that you don’t need to enter the zoo itself in order to enter the adventure course!

The second floor of the restaurant also has a bar area that is often used for private parties and events. They have fulfilling food such as turkey, pizza, and many more.
