SHARE - Located near the mouth of the Colorado River on the upper Texas coast, Matagorda is a census-designated place featuring approximately 58 miles of pristine beach adorned with seashells, driftwood, bottles, sand dollars, to old Spanish coins.

The 23 miles of Matagorda Beach east of the Colorado River is accessible by vehicles, while the remaining 35 miles is west of the Colorado River and only accessible by boat, kayak, canoe or, other watercraft.

The first 8 miles of beach beyond the dunes is private property. But after 8 miles, it is state property behind the dunes where you can find lots of trails to explore. Aside from watersports, Matagorda Beach makes a perfect site for tent camping or family gathering with Matagorda Beach Rentals.
