Thuringian cuisine is based on traditional recipes that have been handed down from generation to generation. Many healthy and high-calorie dishes revolve around large plates of slow-cooked or roasted meat, and while it sounds heavenly to some, vegetarians who want to try local food are often left with distinctive sides, such as cabbage and potatoes in one form or the other.
