SIGHTSEEING

Thirty miles northwest of Central London, Luton grew dramatically in the 20th century. The city center is filled with functional architecture. Most travelers heading to Luton will pass through the Luton Library Theatre, a place where you can watch shows performance. But there are surprising numbers to see and do in the city and surrounding countryside.

DOWNTOWN

The two main parks Stockwood and Wardown have stunning museums. Luton is also right below the northeastern cliffs of Chiltern Hill. It's near Whipsnade, one of the best zoos in the country. A few miles to Dunstable Downs is the largest zoo in England. The Whipsnade Zoo is owned by ZSL (Zoological Society of London), a non-profit organization engaged in animal conservation around the world. More than a dozen zones, Whipsnade has cheetahs, Indian rhinos, birds from all over the world, swarms of nine Asian elephants, sea lions, African lions, African hunting dogs, and new butterfly houses, containing cute Atlas moths.

The Luton Library Theater was originally opened in 1962 as a college theater, gradually turning into a performance theater. Known as a small and intimate theater, this theater has provided a series of exceptionally high-quality performances, from small amateur groups to nationally famous companies! Major repairs are underway in 2009, the Luton Library Theater now has more modern seating, a refurbishment at the front and an entirely new cafe! Although it has been restored and renewed many times over the centuries, the Church of St. Mary is more than 850 years old and considered one of the best examples of medieval architecture in England! Other parts of the church were added later, such as bell towers added at the beginning of the 20th century.

INSTAGRAMMABLE SPOT

A perfect place for dog walkers and families with young children is Wrest Park. This park covers an area of 37 hectares in rural Bedfordshire and is managed by English Heritage because the rural area includes a beautiful Grade I listed building at its center. With lots of wildlife to interact and take pictures, these parks are beautifully preserved paradise so you can spend all day exploring, with its various paths and burning energy. This Scheduled Ancient Monument is located near Luton and was built in the 15th century. Apparently its creator, Sir John Wenlock, still haunts the ruins of Someries Castle to this day. What makes Someries Castle special is that it is considered one of the first brick houses in England!
