SIGHTSEEING

Welcome to Jonathan Dickinson State Park! This park is the largest park in Southeast Florida, and definitely there are so many things you can explore in this park. Start by sightseeing at a place near the park, which is Busch Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary itself isn’t very far from the park, only 16 minutes away by driving.

This sanctuary has their public programs which you can use, such as wildlife encounter, storytime, hunters of the skies, and many more. Some of the programs such as alligator and crocodile feeding at enclosure are limited to 20 people, with first come first serve system. Such an amazing place that rehabilitates local wildlife and helps to educate people.

Another place we picked for you to visit for sightseeing is Coral Cove Park. This park is only 8 minutes away from Jonathan Dickinson State Park. It is a waterfront park located in Tequesta, Florida. This place is extra pretty when it’s sunrise, so it’s definitely a place you’d want to spend some times for sightseeing. You can also do snorkelling and collect beautiful shells along the shoreline!

Actually, there are a bunch of activities you can do in this large park. First, you can do bicycling along the 2-miles paved trail adjacent to park drive from the park’s main picnic and river area. There are also other trails which is the 8.7-miles Ocean to Lake Multi-use trail and the 8-mile Eagles View located at the north of the park’s equestrian area.

Then, you can join boat tours which will take you on a one and half hour tour of the river. The boat will stop for a while at the restored 1930 camp of Trapper Nelson, or the “Wildman of the Loxahatchee.” If you’re using a wheelchair, you can give the park an advance notice before you’re arriving! Other activities you can do include fishing, geo-seeking, hiking, horseback riding, paddling, picnicking, and wildlife viewing.

If you still have time you’d probably want to check out Nature Conservancy Blowing Rocks, which is only 10 minutes away from the park. This conservancy is basically a beach with unique limestone rock formations, which is very satisfying to see the waves crashing against it. The water here is very clear and is great for snorkeling.

CAMPING

Jonathan Dickinson State Park also offers camping service. If you plan to stay overnight under the stars, this is your chance. You can choose whether you want to book the camp sites with hook-ups or primitive camping.

For the camping with hook-ups, you will get access to water, electricity, table and grill, and sewer hook-ups. A dump station is available at Pine Grove Campground which is about four miles from the River campground. All campgrounds have large, tiled restrooms with hot showers. Washer and dryer is available as well. You may book the slot 11 months in advance for camping in here!

Since May 21st, Jonathan Dickinson State Park has opened again offering limited camping for guests. Visitors should also expect limited hours, capacity, and amenities. Visitors are also expected to maintain distances of at least six-feet apart and limit group size to 50 or fewer.
