Pescadero State Beach is alongside State Route 1, located 14.5 miles south of Half Moon Bay and 1.5 miles west of the city of Pescadero in San Mateo County, California.

Pescadero means "the place to fish" in Spanish.

It's always refreshing to do a short road trip and feel the clean ocean breeze along the Pacific Coast. Pescadero State Beach is one of those remaining "free" beaches along the beautiful California coastline on Cabrillo Highway 1. It's a nice place to stop and be refreshed and be at peace with less crowd and plenty of space on the beach.
The beach is such a perfect weekend getaway where you can enjoy the nature from the picnic tables or on your foot. As the name suggests (Pescadero means "the place to fish" in Spanish) you should try fishing at some recommended spots or simply catching fishes and other sea creatures in the tide pools.


There are a lot of options you can do at the beach. do you love strolling along the beach and the surrounding area? Then try out the available hiking trails. Do you prefer exploring the water instead? Boating could be your answer.
While taking a walk with your dog is not allowed in the area, you can swim and surf instead. If you love to observe the nature, they have some vista points offering you spectacular views


Due to the pandemic spread, it’s important to attend to the guidelines set when visiting Pescadero State Beach. During the Covid-19 outbreak, very limited parking will be available to the public in the central parking lot. While trails will be open for access, some facilities like restrooms will be reopened partially. Visitors are also encouraged to engage in active recreation only.
Some other visitor guidelines, including:
• Stay Local: Stay close to home. Walk or bike into the park. Parking is very limited. Do not take road trips to parks and beaches or to neighboring states.
• Stay Active: Keep walking, jogging, hiking and biking. Watch for one-way trails.
• Stay Safer at 6 Feet: Maintain a physical distance of 6 feet or more. Gatherings, picnics and parties are not allowed. Visitors will be asked to leave if there are too many people at the park, beach or on trails to allow for the required physical distance.
• Stay Clean: Be prepared. Bring soap/sanitizer and pack out all trash.
• Stay Covered: The state now requires you to wear a face covering in most indoor settings and public outdoor spaces when you cannot maintain physical distancing of six feet or more from people outside of your immediate household. Visitors should also abide by their local county health orders.


Day-use area is available for visitors from 8 a.m. to sunset. Considered a self-registered fee area, there is a kiosk which is staffed during summer months. You also have to be aware of the changing weather, so it’s best to always bring a jacket.


Pescadero State Beach is a perfect place for fishing. For the recommended fishing spots, you can access them either from North Parking Lot, Middle Parking Lot, or South Parking Lot.
The beach has a mile-long shoreline with sandy coves, rocky cliffs and includes the sandy beach north of Pescadero Creek and the rocky shoreline to the south. Check the cliff face at the end of the middle parking lot, the rocks off the south end, and the sandy beaches. Popular fresh water spot for steelhead, so do not assume all anglers here fished salt water.
This is the beach most used by anglers fishing Pescadero. It’s less rocky and usually calmer water than the beach to the south. Striped bass, surfperch, croaker, surfsmelt targeted here. The southern parking lot gives access to a few rocky beach coves and outcroppings with tide pools that are exposed at low tide.
Aside from fishing, you are allowed to swim or surf in the sea.
