Welcome to Caprock Canyon State Park guide! This park which located in Texas is the third-largest park in the state. It’s a popular place to hike, bike, and camp among the scenic red canyons and grassland with a bison herd.

If you’re visiting Caprock Canyon State Park, don’t forget to visit The Natural Bridge as well. In fact, it’s one of the highlights of the park, so you can’t miss it! It’s located not really far from the start of the trail if you start at the far end further into the park. After 0.75 miles, look to your right and you will see The Natural Bridge.

Be sure to pay attention to your surroundings or you might miss the place since there is no sign on the site, except a bench under the path at your feet. The chamber is especially pretty because of the lights that enters giving it a warm, orange color.

Visiting the Natural Bridge is one of the highlights of trip to Caprock Canyon State Park.

Stop at the wooden bench and use the small trail to walk underneath and through the Natural Bridge.

There are many things that you can do in this park. Here, you can see herds of bison running around the park, hike the trails, ride horses or bike, camp, geocache, or take a scenic drive. There is also Lake Theo, where you can boat, fish, and swim. All these activities would be more fun if you come with your friends!


Caprock Canyon State Park offers overnight camping inside the park area. There are ordinary camps as well as equestrian campsites with corrals. Electricity and water hook-ups are available and one site could accommodate 8 people maximum. You can also choose if you’d prefer campsites without electricity hook-ups (only water hook-ups) or primitive campsites.


During this time of pandemic, visitors should follow the guidelines such as using face coverings and maintain at least a six-foot distance from people not in your group. Park hours is also limited, make sure you check the park’s official website before visiting.


Visiting this park is always fun all year round, but the most crowded seasons would be in spring, summer, and fall. This is because of the pleasant temperature and low chance of rain.

Satisfy your hungry tummy by going to Bison Café, which is 14 minutes away from Caprock Canyons State Park & Trail. They serve American bites such as burgers, chicken salads, onion rings, and many more. The taste of the foods are yummy your taste buds will thank you. The service is excellent as well, they are very attentive!

Another restaurant that is worth a visit is Galvan’s Restaurant, which is a bit far from the park (around 24 minutes of driving to get there) but we guarantee you it’s going to be worth it, especially if you’re craving for Mexican food. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is quite relaxing and the staffs are friendly as well.

Bison Cafe

This is a great little spot to eat.

They have a great lunch menu and the food is delicious.

Hand breaded chicken fried steak, excellent onion rings, home made chunky blue cheese dressing.

The service is excellent as well and very friendly.

Near Galvan’s restaurant, there is a gift shop that you must check out named Wills Bob Foundation. It’s not only a gift shop, the place also showcases many items that are related to swing musician, Bob Wills. You can also ask the staff to give you a tour around the museum!
