SIGHTSEEING

Welcome to Sweetwater Creek State Park, one of the most popular park in Atlanta. This beautiful park has a lot to offer, and if you’re in Douglas County, you should totally check it out.

There are many spots you can totally stop by and enjoy sightseeing in it. You can follow the wooded trails which leads to New Manchester Mill Ruins, which is a textile mill burned down during Civil War. Fun fact, the New Manchester Mill Ruins was also a filming location of the famous movie Hunger Games.

You need to go nowhere else than exploring inside the park itself to feast your eyes. The lake’s water looks glassy, complemented with the rocks and greeneries everywhere you look at. Everything is beyond scenic and every building are environmentally responsible. No matter which trails you take, you will be led to somewhere beautiful.

ONE DAY TRIP IDEA

Honestly, we’re almost 100 percent sure that you will never be bored when you visit this park. There are many park activities you can do here. To name a few, you can do hiking, birding, fishing, geocaching, picnicking, weddings, and joining park paddlers club.

For hiking, there are 4 trails that you can follow. Red Trail is the shortest one, with only 2 miles in distance and you will be able to visit the famous New Manchester Mill ruins. Then the Yellow Trail is 3.4 miles in distance. You will cross the creek using a large bridge and on the other side, you will see the mill ruins as well as a cave that once was inhabited by Native Americans.

The third is the white trail, with 4.1 miles in distance. You will be able to see mill ruins and climb some large bluffs overlooking the creek’s waterfall. There is also a small lake and grassy meadows you will pass by. Even though it’s a bit far, but it’s going to be worth it.
The last one is the Orange trail with 4.75 miles in distance. You will see the mills ruin just like how it’s captured in The Hunger Games, and you will also be able to see Atlanta’s skyline.

If you’re not tired after you hike you can rent a SUP board from the park and then do paddle boarding on the lake.

CAMPING

Can’t get enough with this park? well, who says that you can’t stay overnight! You can sign up for camping in here and experience sleeping in the wilderness. You can choose whether you want to stay in a yurt or you want to bring your own tent. If you bring a whole family, the Yurt will be a perfect choice.

There are bath houses as well that you can use here and they are clean. If you’re interested in camping, you better reserve as early as possible as the slots fills up quickly!

HEALTH ADVISORY

Sweetwater Creek State Park have several rules you have to follow if you’re in the area of the park. You are not allowed to smoke in all areas of the park. Pets are allowed in the campgrounds if they are leashed. You are also not allowed to consume alcoholic beverages or intoxicants.

If you’re camping you should also be considerate of other guests by being quiet and not using radios, television and other noise making devices between 10 PM to 7 AM.

BEST TIME TO VISIT

Sweetwater Creek State Park is always beautiful in all seasons. But speaking of weather, the best time to visit here is March 26th to May 27th.

Actually, Sweetwater Creek State Park has their own gift shop where you can buy souvenirs associated to the park. However, if you want to buy unique souvenirs out of the park, you can go to Champ’s Clock Shop. This place sells big variety of clock, from the big ones to the small ones. The staffs are very knowledgeable and the prices is great too. This will be a perfect place if you’re a fan of classic items and has nostalgic touch to it.
