Boone County Arboretum is located outside Union, KY. It took only 25 minutes southwest from downtown Cincinnati. The park is open daily. You can enjoy more than 3,600 trees and shrubs. This park also well is known as Central Park and was the nation's first arboretum within an active recreation park setting.
Big Bone Lick State Historic Site is located at Big Bone in Boone County, Kentucky. The name of the park comes from the Pleistocene megafauna fossils discovered there. Mammoths are accepted to have been attracted to this area by a salt lick stored around the sulfur springs. Other animals, including buffalo, caribou, deer, elk, horse, mastodon, moose, musk bull, peccary, sloth, and tapir.

We want to recommend a short trip to Big Bone Lick State Park. It would be a great idea to visit with your friends or family. The park features indoor and outdoor exhibits of fossils, American Art, a 1,000-pound mastodon skull, and a gift shop.


Before you start your trip, having breakfast is a good idea. We recommend you to visit Enlightenment Coffee, it offers a variety of locally roasted specialty grade coffee.

After having a little breakfast, drive directly to the park. It took only 13 minutes. The park features several nature trails while you can see a woolly mammoth, a mastodon, a ground sloth, bison, and scavengers feeding on carcasses and skeletal remains.

There are plenty of activities you might like here, such as camping, hiking, miniature golf, swimming, tennis, etc. Besides, there are 40 acres of picnic grounds with tables, grills, and playground areas.

Oak Creek Campground offers 99 sites, all sites have water and electricity. There is also a modern swimming pool open from Memorial Day to Labor Day and is free for guests. Besides, for a family gathering, you can also use a large shelter building.
